Mortise & PestalThe bowl was turned from a maple burlthen the spout was sanded to shape.The pestal is maple and black woodglued together then turned. The finishis mineral oil.
Piggy BankThese were made for two new babiesof a 2 couples at work. They are madefrom 4 pieces of cedar glued together.The middle pieces have the centers cutout with as jig saw set at 45 degreeangle.The glue up was turned to the pigshape. The ears are leather cut toshape and set into slots cut into thehead. The tales are leather bout lacesoaked in water and allowed to driewhile wrapped around a dowel.
Salt & PepperMade from kits avail from Lee Valley.The one on the left was made atseminar there. It is wade from walnutand designed to sit upside down so thepepper won’t get on the table.The other is a set of salt & peppermade from maple. Both are finnishedwith Shellaque and carnuba wax.
Apricot BowlThere actually are apricot treesgrowing in Calgary. A nice lady gavemy a large branch trimmed from hertree. Unfortunately the center wasrotted out. I made a small bowl from apiece of the tree.
Letter HolderBear berries grow wild in the foothills. Afriend gave me a few pieces with areasonable diameter. I made this little guyfrom one of the pieces. Saws cuts make aslot to hold letters, notes, etc..WoodBear Berry, Black wood, pig skin.
Spalted bowlI found a short piece of wood along theriver. it turned out to be s beautiful piece ofspalted birch. this little bowl is the result.WoodSpalted Birch
Mahogany BowlA nice little bowl made from chunk of 2”Mahogany. A weak solution of Drano waswiped on before finishing. This brings outthe red in the wood. The stronger thesolution the darker the color. WoodMahogany
Bear Berry VaseThis small vase is made from the stock of of a Bear Berrybush. You can see the color change from the bark (darkbrown) to the sap wood (yellow) to the heart wood (goldbrown)WoodBear Berry
