Mortise & PestalThe bowl was turned from a maple burl then the spout was sanded to shape. The pestal is maple and black wood glued together then turned. The finish is mineral oil.
Piggy BankThese were made for two new babies of a 2 couples at work. They are made from 4 pieces of cedar glued together. The middle pieces have the centers cut out with as jig saw set at 45 degree angle. The glue up was turned to the pig shape. The ears are leather cut to shape and set into slots cut into the head. The tales are leather bout lace soaked in water and allowed to drie while wrapped around a dowel.
Salt & PepperMade from kits avail from Lee Valley. The one on the left was made at seminar there. It is wade from walnut and designed to sit upside down so the pepper won’t get on the table. The other is a set of salt & pepper made from maple. Both are finnished with Shellaque and carnuba wax.
Apricot BowlThere actually are apricot trees growing in Calgary. A nice lady gave my a large branch trimmed from her tree. Unfortunately the center was rotted out. I made a small bowl from a piece of the tree.
Letter HolderBear berries grow wild in the foothills. A friend gave me a few pieces with a reasonable diameter. I made this little guy from one of the pieces. Saws cuts make a slot to hold letters, notes, etc..WoodBear Berry, Black wood, pig skin.
Spalted bowlI found a short piece of wood along the river. it turned out to be s beautiful piece of spalted birch. this little bowl is the result.WoodSpalted Birch
Mahogany BowlA nice little bowl made from chunk of 2” Mahogany. A weak solution of Drano was wiped on before finishing. This brings out the red in the wood. The stronger the solution the darker the color. WoodMahogany
