Knife BlockI spotted an advertising for a knife block in a magazine and decided to make a similar one for my daughter. Basically I laminated three 4/4 pieces of Maple together, then cut them into wedged, ran dadoes along the bottoms of them, and rounded the edges. The wedges were then glued together and finished the block. WOOD:MapleMineral Oil
Cutting BlockSome leftover strips of wood were glued together then cut into 16 cross cuts. Every other one is flipped end for end and they were glued together. Mineral oil was soaked into the top until it seeped out of the bottom.Somehow the middle was shorter then the sides which resulted in curved ends. To make it look better I curved the sides. WOODMaple, Walnut, CherryMineral Oil
Christmas TreeThis is a simple scroll saw project. Cut from one piece of wood following a pattern from a magazine. The blade is set on a slight angle so the pieces stick when separated. It is a good exercise in making tight turns with a small blade.WOODAlderWatco oil finish (2 coats)

Artist's EaselMy father-in-law took up painting after he retired. I designed and built a collapsible easel for his birthday. The back leg hinges at the top and connects to the vertical member via two slotted slats. The vertical member is slotted to allow height adjustment. The main triangular frame is mitered and glued. The brass screws were added for looks. The painting shelf and top support were made from Mahogany. Three groves were milled in the lower shelf to hold paint brushes. The blood wood finished up very smooth with a great coloring and grain pattern but working with it sure produced a lot of slivers. WOOD:Bloodwood, MahoganyWatco Oil
Wine Bottle HolderA leaping fish balancing a wine bottle was made from a nice piece of Jatoba (Brazilian cherry). The wood is moderately hard and finished well. I made the fins from Mahogany and the eye from Black Africa Wood.WOOD:Jatoba, Black Africa Wood, MahoganyTung Oil, Bees Wax
Saddle Pen HolderMany years ago my father made and carved this leather saddle. I made piece to display it on a desk top pen holder. WOOD:Diamond willow, walnut, lacquer
